The purpose of this course is to provide students with foundational sources of food production and distribution through academic texts, guest lectures, and site visits. The course will also serve as a comparative case study of current agribusiness industries and practices between the United Kingdom and the United States. Students will develop critical thinking skills in order to face the complex challenges in a global agricultural economy. Further, students will cultivate a comprehensive viewpoint on the influences of history and culture in the development of management systems and practices in British agriculture. Students will also study national policy and laws related to agriculture in the United Kingdom.

The program includes a 10-day study abroad component during the week of Spring Break. While traveling abroad, students will spend four nights in England, one night in Wales, and four nights in England exploring the rich natural resources of both countries as well as multiple cultural activities. Students will also broaden their interpersonal and professional communication abilities while interacting with faculty and students at Harper Adams University, a leading institution in rural and sustainable agriculture.
